Immersion Ecobiometric

Specialized equipment for the theoretical measurement of the power of the intraocular lens that will be used during cataract surgery. The ocular ecobiometry is important to make the differential diagnosis between microcornea and microphthalmia, it also contributes to quantify the thickness of the lens, the size of the eye and the power of the intraocular lens.

The procedure consists in the instillation of a drop of topical anesthesia in the patient’s eye, then it is asked to fix the sight in a point, in this way, the ophthalmologist doctor touches the corneal apex with a device that measures by echoes the axial length Of the eye. The procedure is not invasive and the duration depends on the cooperation of the patient and the density of the cataract, provides vital data and only produces a temporary effect of anesthesia on the patient. Immersion ecobiometry is considered by many ophthalmology specialists to be better and more accurate than contact biometrics.

This examination is mandatory prior to cataract surgery and is performed by one of the ophthalmologists at our Ophthalmology Clinic in approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
